Infant/Toddler Specific Philosophy
The Little School House offers families center based Infant and Toddler care. This program caters to the needs of each individual child. Our Infant Care is on a one teacher to four infant ratio and our Toddlers are on a one teacher to six toddler ratio. When enrolling in the program, an Infant Needs Plan is written with the caregiver and parent together. At this time the parent imparts the child's home routine (napping, eating, etc.) and his/her individual needs. The same plan is carried out in the classroom for continuity of care for the child. Additionally, as the child develops and the relationship with the caregiver forms, the teacher will become sensitive to the child's unspoken cues as to what they need and want. The classroom environment is designed to provide opportunity for stimulation, rest, and feeding, as well as a warm and caring interaction between adult and child. Additionally, our staff is well trained on health and safety practices including but not limited to sanitary diapering, food preparation, First Aid & CPR training. It is our goal to give our infants and toddlers the best possible experience to start their young life.
Infant and Toddler Care available at the Santa Rosa/Chanate Road location.
Toddler Care (18 months) available at both Santa Rosa and Larkfield locations
Preschool Specific Philosophy
The Little School House provides a learning center, play planned environment in which children are encouraged to explore and learn about the world around them. The Little School House creates opportunity to run, garden, and learn about nature in the beautiful country-like setting. We offer many enrichment programs such as community visitors, field trips, as well as music and movement group activities. Our focus is on the development of the "whole child". This is done through thoughtful creation of weekly curriculum themes. We foster language through puppetry, flannel stories, singing and reading. Through art, creativity emerges. By encouraging dramatic play, the child grows socially. When cutting, lacing and during outdoor play, the child can develop large and fine motor skills. Using manipulatives, puzzles and blocks we facilitate the child's understanding of cognitive concepts. At The Little School House our children are prepared for Kindergarten, socially and academically, through hands on "learn by doing" techniques.
Preschool is available at all 3 Little School House locations
School Age Specific Philosophy
The Little School House offers the school aged child the sense of "coming home" after school. We create in the child a sense of "you belong" by offering a home like setting, with not only student chairs, tables and learning toys/games, but cozy couches and private comfortable areas. Children will come from school and enjoy cooking and eating their own snack. Friday afternoons (TGIF) they will enjoy a movie and popcorn. At parent's choice, children will get special time for homework and receive tutoring help. The curriculum, field trips and other special events are planned with the participation of the children to ensure that we keep the program interesting to them. A FULL DAY SUMMER CAMP is also provided by the The Little School House.
School Age Care is available at the Windsor/Larkfield location. Bus service is available for both the Mark West and Windsor School Districts. Call 527-8118 for more information.
